The markoes did have two sugar plantations on the Island of St. Croix. One is in Spanish Town. The Markoes Started in France. The last names had several spellings Marcou, Marcoux, Ect... They went to Denmark and changed the spelling of the name to a danish spelling to Markoe. From there they went to the Virgin Islands. My 5th Great Grandfather was the first Colonial Gov. Then my fourth Great Grandfather went to Philly PA and was first Captain of the Light Horse Troop. His son kept the Plantations running. The Markoes have a huge place in History. The First flag the have 13 stripes for the 13 colonies. It was presented to Gen. George Washington and carried in major battles in our history. (Germantown, Princeton, Crossing of The Delaware.
