For anyone interested in Irish surname research in the Caribbean, I've just set up a DNA project to help people with Irish surnames and Caribbean heritage to connect with their Irish (or African) roots - it's at www.icara.ie
DNA can help identify what part of Ireland or Africa your direct male line came from, and can also help identify potential cousins living today.

Hello, I too am a descendant of Elizabeth nee Wade and Dennis Sweeney. I distinctly remember my Aunt Elizabeth nee Sweeney telling stories about this couple. I don't recall the exact lineage, but I believe they would have been my great-great grandparents also. I'm not sure if they were through my grandpa John Henry Sweeney or my grandmother Mary Morgan (nee Daley) Sweeney. I have asked my Aunt Liz (Elizabeth) to respond, so hopefully she will and correct any of my memory lapses. She is now 86 yrs old. My father, Marvin Sweeney was born in Montserrat and grew up in St. John's. I personally know Fenton and O'Garro relatives on my grandmother Mary (nee Daley) Sweeney's side. I hope this leads to something fruitful for you.

Unfortunately I do not have dates for Ann and Catherine Fergus.

Henry Fenton married Ann Fergus and had Henrietta.
William Daly married Catherine Fergus and had John Edward.

John Edward Daly married Henrietta Fenton and had Catherine 1885.

Well als for me not to good.I am sick with my kidney and i have one kidney that is good and my mother,uncly,ant died with the kidney they was also jeffes.I donot no my family in Montserrat i wold love to no them anyway all i no that my mother father had name james-nepkan jeffers from Montserrat
My mother had sugar,blind and they cut off her two foots anyway i does go blind and it does come back good and i have problem with my foots.i would realy love to no my family from Montserrat i donnot no them.I was born in St Maarten anyway and live in Holland in Rotterdam my Grand fathers kids live in Sint maarten some on the Dutch side of st Maarten and some on the orther side that is name Sint Maartin.i would realy love to no if you are family to us.

Hello All,

My name is Melanie and I am attempting to trace the roots of my great-grandfather John R. Peters who was born in Montserrat in 1884. I don't know much about him other than he was allegedly disowned by his family for marrying my great-grandmother Miriam (from Jamaica) whom he had 3 daughters with in Balboa,Panama Canal,Panama. I was told that he was caucasian, but a 1940 US Federal Census states he was "negro".

Hi guys, I've recently become interested in tracing my family history. My living grandmothers name is Grace Piper Gooding(Gooding being her married name). She is originally from Montserrat. If im not mistaken she is in her mid 70's. We own land in Montserrat but i'd like to gather some more information and see if I have any living relatives out there.

I have a Henry Fenton married to an Ann Fegus who had daughter Henrietta Fenton who married a John Edward Daly whose parents were William Daly and Catherine Fergus.

Catherin Daly married Abraham O'Garro who is a cousin of Samuel Daly.

I am loking for dates and citations for these people on my tree if anyone can direct me it would be much appreciated.

My grandfather grandfather Samuel Daly is supposedly a cousin of Abraham O'garro whose daughter Margaret Anne married a John Joseh Daley Nov 17 1937.. The connection gets foggy after that but we have allen as cousins and godparents as well. If these names sound familar please contact me so i can continue on with my tree. George Denny Broadnax, not related, but is part my extended tree as an in-law from my Wiley and Charity Whitfield paternal side of my family, from the Kinston Lenoir County NC area. My paternal great grand father, George Foy married Wiley and charity's daughter, Mary Elizabeth Whitfield. As you can see George is way out there in my tree. My Montserrat roots are from my maternal side. I just found George's Broadnax surname this week, while researching another family member.

Hi, my name is Tavia O'garro and my father is from Monserrat and is now married to a woman with the last name Meade also from Monserrat. Most of the O'garro family like my Grandma, aunts, and cousins went to England but my dad came to Canada. So did some of the Meades like my step mom, step brothers and uncles, and step grandma. However I know that my step moms grandfather stayed in Monserrat.

Hi Carrie, my name is Tavia O'garro and I am not from Monserrat but my father Steve O'garro is. He left before the Volcano and has settled in Canada (I also live in Canada). I know that a large portion of my family like my Grandma, Aunts, and most of my cousins went to England. My grandfather and uncle stayed in Monserrat I think. I also have been trying to find my extended family as my father did not give me much information. However I have contacted my aunt who knows more than I about the family. My mother's maiden name is Farrell whose ancestry was from Montserrat;these are related to the Hoytes, the Sampsons, the Whykes etc who migrated to Trinidad in the Caribbean. I am interested to find out more of this family grouping.
