Greetings -- From the info you have placed in these pages I believe I may be right in assuming that your background is Af-Am from the Indiana area.
In our STREETY family there have been times when the spelling was STREATY & STREETE etc.
Our STREETY families in AL & TX did have a number of slaves. Most of these people came out of Lowndes and Butler counties in AL and Freestone sounty in TX. It appears from records we have seen that they primarily used the "EE" instead of "EA". The start of this family comes out of Bladen County NC.
And -- Melissa --- if you find anything on STREETY we would be glad to have you report to us.

STREATY Robert H. Streaty, Jr., of Columbus, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 5, 2010.

Robert was born in Anderson, Indiana. He is the son of the late Rev. Robert Streaty, Sr. and Mrs. Valeska Streaty.
He is also preceded in death by brother Rev. Joseph Streaty and brother-in-law Edward Towell and sister-in-law Janice Gray.
Robert is a graduate of South High School in Columbus, Ohio and attended The Ohio State University in business.
Robert worked as a bank manager for 22 years, and then was employed at St. Ann's Mount Carmel Hospital in financial administration.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, where he worked in different organizations and sang in the choir. Robert was a big sports fan, especially for his Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns.

Robert and Sallie enjoyed their time traveling the United States and Caribbean cruise. But, what was most important to Robert was his family; he served as their provider and protector.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sallie; devoted daughter, Juliet Elain Streaty (Dr. Dwight) Varnum; new granddaughter, Zoey; sisters, Roberta J. Towell and Dr. Anne Streaty (Dr. Edward) Wimberly; brother, Jon A. (Linda) Streaty; brothers-in-law, Willie R. Gray, Charles (Mary Anne) Hamilton, and Walter Hamilton; sisters-in-law, Joyce Streaty, Daisy (Gerald) Williams, and Loretha Hamilton; longtime friends, Charles and Lillian White and Robert Grilli; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family will be receiving friends on Friday, June 11, 2010 from 1-3 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 East Livingston Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43232.

Funeral services will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Christ United Methodist Church, 1480 Zettler Road, Columbus, Ohio 43227.

Inurnment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association , 5455 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43214, where Robert was a regular contributor.

JON I LIVE IN ANDERSON INDIANA AND I KNOW THE STREATY FAMILY MR JOHN THOMAS PASSED AWAY ON SEPT. 29, 2010 HERE IN ANDERSON HE IS THE SON OF EARL AND MARY E. STREATY BORN ON MAY 11,1926 IN INDIANA HIS PARENTS HAD A TOTAL OF TEN KIDS. JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THIS.THIS IS YOUR FATHERS BROTHER.
