French Soldiers in Martinique Prior to 1777

Classification: Query
Surnames: Chambaron, D'Antignac
I seek information on Louis Jean Baptist Chambaron d'Antignac, born in France in 1748. He was supposed to have been a French soldier in Martinique from about 1770 until he came to America at the beginning of the Revolution. He introduced himself to the Continental Congress and the Board of War via a "Memorial" identifying himself as "CHAMBARON, Chevalier d' Antignac," a member of the King's Musketeers. His full name was Louis Jean Baptist Chambaron d'Antignac.
Additionally, he had a son also named Jean/John D'Antignac who was possibly born in Martinique but whose mother is unknown. It is known that she did not accompany the elder D'Antignac to America either because of death, divorce or abandonment.
I have been unable to find independent information on Chambaron-D'Antignac prior to his arrival in America in 1777, only what he presented about himself to Congress and later snatches of information shared by him during his lifetime.
I would love to hear from anyone who may have additional information and/or who have come across my grandfather in your research or via family lore, or any suggestions on how to search for him.
Thank you for your time and assistance,
Yours truly,
Brenda Austin Mason
Fifth generation great-granddaughter of Jean/John Chambaron D'Antignac
