I am seeking information on Mathieu Bremond and his son Paul Barbe Bremond. According to family history, Mathieu owned a coffee plantation on the Island of Martinique in the late 1700s. There were 3 adjoining plantations: the Bremond's, one belonging to an English family, and the third owned by the Tascher de la Pagerie family. The history records that Mathieu married H. Gaspard de la Pagerie's sister, and they had one son, Paul Barbe Bremond born about 1770, who studied to be a physician. Paul supposedly married Marie Claire "Nanette" Tascher de la Pagerie who had first married M. de Lyse. After M. de Lyse died, and Marie Clarie died. Paul and Marie Claire left for Marseilles where Paul practiced medicine. Marie Claire died a year ofter the marriage to Paul Bremond.
I would like to know how to research this information. What are the proper archives to search? Who should I contact? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
