I am searching for information about an Augustus Tiver. He was born in Riverton, South Australia but it can be assumed that his parents were born in the UK.

I have been unable to find information about his parents, but it seems a possibility that James Llewellyn Tiver could have been his father. James Llewellyn was born on 11 Aug 1829 in
Bristol, Gloucestershire, England; resided in Monmouthshire, Wales in 1851, and emigrated to South Australia by 1858.

Augustus Tiver was born in 1858. I can't find any definitive piece of information to tie the two together, though Riverton (where Augustus was born) and James' residence (Burra) are close by. I guess there is a chance James was Augustus' uncle, if not his father.

If anybody has information about Augustus and/or his parents, it would be much appreciated.

Hi,
Do you have the 1851 census info. in Newport Monmouthshire? There is a James Tiver with a sister Mary Ann [who marries in newport later] a Charles [brother] and a younger sister Eliza aged 9. There is also on Freebmd deaths with the surname Tiver in Newport before 1851 which might be worth investigating.

Regards

Sandra

Sandra's family in Newport, the brothers james 1829-30, Charles 1833, are Masons, they are the only people called Tiver in Wales.(by the census)
There is one family in London William a printer and his young family, that's it for the UK
in 1841 there are 10 people called Tiver in England, a family in Bristol Charles a sailor aged 33 wife Ann and Jane and Ann daughters, they do not show in the next census so they probably emmigrated. I wonder if your Tiver was already at sea? cheers fred
