I am looking for the birth and birth place of Victor George Phillips who died 2nd July 1974 in Pontnewynydd, Pontypool, Mon.also his parents names if possible. He died instestate, and his estate was divided between issue of his Aunts and Uncles, who had predeceased his death. He lived at 48 George St. at the time of his death. I need a date of birth so I may determine where he fits into the family tree of Phillips, of which my Mother was one of the descendants. I found a 'Notice of Claim' in the London Gazette dated 1974 but no mention of his age etc. If anyone can help I would be grateful.

Hello David,
thankyou for your interest in my search for Victor George Phillips. I know his date of birth is absolutely correct but not his birth. He lived in the same Street at his death that my own Mother was born in, and her family lived in some years ago.I had thought that he may have a connection to the London area because of the Notice of Claims in the London Gazette, not sure at all if he was born there. If he was born in Wales then the 1911 census is not available for that yet. I will look at the other entry though. I don't have a subscription at the moment so I won't get the 1974 entry.
Again thankyou.

Hi,
You have been given the birth registration of Victor George Phillips.

Camberwell 1d 929 Sep.Qtr 1908

might be quicker to obtain the birth cert. than wait for the 1911 census.

Regards

Sandra

Hello Sandra,
yes I realise that the census for 1911 is not and won't be ready for some time. However until I know where Victor George was actually born - it is still poss. tha he was born in Wales - I won't be ordering a certificate. I have another avenue I can persue right now so I will be tryig that. Thankyou for your interest.

The 1911 census for Wales is now available online. (From 11th June 2009) on findmypast

What was the address that you believe he might be at. There are two Victor Phillips in Wales, who could fit the bill. Don't be mislead by the insertion inthe London Gazette. The London Gazette is merely the News Paper which shows all sorts of legal notices. I worked in the Legal profession all of my life and used this on many occasions to put in notices under the Inheritance Act, but it has nothing to do with the area where the person either lived or was born.

If ou can give the exact address where you think he may be, I may be able to find it for you. But in the meantime, the death certificate from 1947 appears to be him, as it would be extremely unlikely that two people of exactly the same name, would be born on exactly the same day.

Hi,
thankyou for the inside info. on the newspaper business. Victor George Phillips died 2nd July 1974. I do know that he died at 48 George St. Pontnewynydd, Pontypool.
Where he was born I don't know, I thought most likely Wales or Hereford as that is where some of the Phillips family was born. My Grandfather Major Phillips was born in 1884 in Cinderill St. Monmouth, other family lived there too. The only other address for Phillips' I have is Torfaen Terrace, Monmouth. Thankyou for letting me know that the 1911 census is ready for Wales, I hadn't looked for few days.
regards Trixie

Hi Trixie,

Are you online NOW. 8.a.m. British summer time. England time.

The Victor Phillips who is in Pontypool lives at Dyke Row and has a father called Frederick Edward and a mother called Ethel. Is this your man? If so, I will try to attach a copy. Or you can give me your own email and I will send it direct.

Nancy

Major is the older brother of Frederick, and they are both sons of George, (born Herefordshire) and Sarah (born Somerset)
on the 1891 census, they are shown at 67 Cinderell Street,Monmouth

Hi Nancy,
not sure if it is the same Victor, if you would like to send me what you have that would be grateful. I don't know his parents names, they were both deceased before he died and no living siblings. I found my grandparents Phillips on the 1911 census, they lived at 46 George St. now I wish I had looked at next doors as Victor George lived at 48 George St. at the time of his death.
My email is efarndon@bigpond.net.au
8 am your time would have been around 5.30 pm here, I'm normally off line by then.
I do have all the siblings and parents for my Grandfather, thankyou for your help.
regards Trixie
