Hi Sue, I think this must be a record....a 17 year old post being replied to! I've discovered much about my Crooks since this post. Yes, H stood for Henry ad the P for Pitt ( named after his grandmother). HP was b.1825 in the Forest of Dean, Blakeney, Gloucester. Son of Henry Crook b. 1804 Bickleigh, Devon. My Crook lineage stretches back into Bickleigh for a few more generations. My HP did move with his parents to Aberystruth, Wales by 1841. They then moved to Pontnewynydd, Monmouthshire ( following puddling and moulder jobs. By 1867 he and his family emigrated to the US, living first in Pottsville, PA , then in Elmira NY and finally to Youngstown , Ohio. Yet again following moulder jobs. I did find your tree at Ancestry but did not see an obvious connection. No Thomas Crooks in my tree. :) Diane
