Ken first thing to remember is ages were rounded off in 1841.Heres the family in 1851
Llettynest Llanllawddog
David Davies,Head,63,Farmer,Llanpumpsaint
Mary Davies,Wife,54,Brechfa
Benjamin Davies,Son,20,Llanllawddog
Richard Davies,Son,9,Llanllawddog

Next thing id do is send for Richards birth certificate as hes born after 1837.Write to Carmarthen registry office with all Richards details parents names and where they lived Llanllawddog. This will give you Marys maiden name .
And then youd have to search in Parish Records as you can see David and Mary werent born in Llanllawddog. This isnt going to be easy as David Davies is such a common name .
But if you get Richards birth cert it will help then as it gives Marys maiden name to find the marriage and go from there.
Good Luck Karen

Thanks for the help.I have a problem. In the 1841 census Richard is called Henry & is (2) while in 1851 he is Richard (9).When I send for the Birth Certificate how can I tell them the year & quarter he was born.Do you think they will do a search for him.

I dont think they are the same child possibly Henry had passed by 1851.Carmarthenshire Registry Office are pretty good if you write that you are looking for the birth cert of Richard Davies born 1841-1843 Llanllawddog,Carms. And you only want the cert if the following details tally up .Father David Davies Occupation a Farmer ,Mother-Mary.Possible address Lletynest?Llanllawddog.Theyll search between two years .Give your telephone no as well.Wed never be able to get the ref no for this cert or any other Davies in Carms unless they had an unusual first name as Davies is so popular a surname.I doubt very much that there are two Richard Davies with the exact same details as those above. Worth a try anyway i cant see at this point what else you can do.Best Wishes Karen

Here David is in 1861 and 1871
Lletynest 1861
David Davies,Head,Widow,73,Farm Baliff,Llanpumpsaint
Margaret Thomas,Unm,Servant,27,Llanllawddog

Llettynest 1871
David Davies,Head,84,Farmer 11 acres,Blancoso?Llanpumpsaint
Carms
Margaret Davies,Wife,36,Llanpumpsaint
Ann Davies,Dau,11,Llanllawddog
Richard Davies,7m,Son,Llanllawddog

Looks to me as they are the same name right age in both censuses that David married his servant. He was obviously enjoying his old age and still producing children.
As hes called another son Richard think we can assume the first Richard died.
Another thing to look into is a will looks to me like David owned the Farm he was on for 30 years or so.So would assume theres a will.
Also be interesting to find out whos living on the Farm in 1881 assume David has passed by then.Margaret young enough to remarry does he leave it to her or his children?.
If you have no joy ill do a look up in Llanllawddog Parish Records next time i go see what infos there problem we have is that we dont know if all the earlier children were born in Llanllawddog?.
And a better chance now is to get the marriage cert of David Davies to Margaret possibly Thomas .As this will give you Davids Fathers name.
Good Luck Karen

Karen,
Thank you so much for your interest. I need all the help I can got.I thought his son Richard may have come to the States with his brothers Thomas & Evan. They came over in 1860 and there families in 1861 but as you say he may have died. As to were the kids were born I think all of them were born in Llanllawddog. In 1851 Thomas and inlaws were in Eddw Vale Monmouthshire and the census said he was born in Llanllawddog.Evan S/O David was my wife's G.G Grandfather."David must have been a good man"
