My g.g.g.grandfather John Lamont was living at Brogaig, Kilmuir, Isle of Skye 1800-1812. He had one son, Duncan, born c.1800 (stated on Census of 1851 for Perthshire) who moved to Perthshire. Duncan married a Janet Sinclair at Fowlis Wester in 1927. Does anyone have more information on said John and Duncan.
I have information on the family from the time of Duncan's marriage.

Update on my previous message - keen to contact anyone on Skye, or researching Lamond/t there, with christian names of Duncan or Alexander, as my previous message may be incorrect regarding Duncan's father, John.

I don't know if we've been in touch previously (perhaps through another query board or list?) but I have been looking for more LAMOND family info. from Skye. Mine were in the parish of Duirinish and lived around Dunvegan area in the mid 1800's. My particular line moved down to East Lothian by 1870, passing through Lanarkshire along the way. Some given names in the family include John, Alexander, Murdoch, Malcolm, and William. Feel free to write for further details.

Do you know specifically that your family only came from Duirinish?
My problem is that my g.g.grandfather, Duncan, states on the Perth 1840 Census that he was born Kilmuir, Skye, and as the Parish Records did not cover that area at that time we have a problem finding any more about him. Even on his death certificate his son, a policeman, when registering the death did not include the parents names, possibly because he had never met them if they lived on Skye.
Elizabeth, Duncan, John, Alexander, William, Janet, James, Daniel, David were the names of his and Janet (Sinclair's)children, in that order.
We have not been able to trace any siblings of g.g.grandfather Duncan and a couple of your family names might just be family.
Would be pleased to have any info.
Thanks, Heather

My gr-gr-gr-grandfather Alexander McCaskill married and Anne Lamont/Lamond in late 1700's. I have been unable to trace the ancestry of Anne or Alexander. Do these people make a connection with your Lanont's?

I recently came back from Isle Of Skye, trying to trace the Lamont's, especially Mary Lamont who travelled to Tasmania and married a Simon Stewart in Port Sorell. in Tasmania, but while I was there I have a photo of a John Lamont on a horse in WW1 which would be a relative, but not the john Lamont your talking about as he would have been 75 in 1900 but I have a photo of a Ronald Lamont newspaper photo clipping from ww1 as well. I have some Lamont's in my tree just ask for permission if you want to have a look.
