I have records on EVERY person born North Uist before 1906 who appears in any extant North Uist register or document and will be pleased to assist anyone researching their North Uist roots.
PLEASE - my records ONLY cover North Uist. If the person or persons you are researching were born other than North Uist I cannot assist.
Because of the few surnames in North Uist and the even fewer given names please provide all information that you have on the person or persons whom you are researching when contacting me.
You can contact me either via this message board or directly at blair@jbmaca.com

Hi Alex,

Blair will be able to furnish you with plenty of information about both your North Uist lines, but I just wanted to let you know that my 3rd great grandfather was Angus MacLellan of Balemore, although I don't have a Catherine that far back. My website is at http://uk.geocities.com/aliis_2000/ - feel free to have a look there and see if you recognise any of the people, and drop me an e-mail if you wish.

Would appreciate if you would contact me directly at blair@jbmaca.com as I want to send you several documents,
The only information that I have on "your" Ann Cameron is the entry in Donald Whyte's, "A Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to Canada Before Confederation", Vol, 1 (an extract of which I will provide to you).
The first "all person" census of Scotland was in 1841 and if, as you and Whyte indicate, Donald and his family emigrated to Ontario from North Uist in the late 1840s they should appear in North Uist in the 1841 Census. I however do not show them in my records as being in this Census.

Hi Blair:
I hope you don't mind me contacting you regarding my relatives who came from Balemore, N Uist, Scotland.
Alexander Fraser was born 1756 and died 1845 in Balemore. He married Ann MacDonald in 1784. (Do not know exact DOB or DOD or where). Wd very much like to know parentage of both Alexander and Ann. They had 9 children, all born in either Balemore or Knockintorran, N Uist. By the way, what is the correct pronunciation of "Uist"? Wd really appreciate any help. Thank you. Maggie from Australia

- My records show that Alexander Fraser was from BALELONE (not Balemore) in North Uist and later re-located to Knockintorran and that he was a s/o Donald Fraser of Orinsay (North Uist).
- As you will be aware,"Fraser" is not a native North Uist name and accordingly the family were "incomers";
- You indicate that Alexander Fraser had NINE children whereas I only show EIGHT;
- I do not know the parents of Alexander's wife, Ann MacDonald. My records show that she was from Skye and my research is limited to North Uist.
- the correct (anglicized) pronounciation of "Uist" is "you-ist". (The Gaelic name for North Uist is "Uibhist a Tuath").

Surnames: FRASER
Hi Blair:
Thank you so much and for correction of Balelone - it has been copied from transcribed notes, which are often incorrect.
Wd it be possible that you could send me details of the 8 children, as again I may have incorrect information.

"Incomers" - does it state where his father Donald Fraser of Orinsay came from? Any information you can give me on the Frasers would be fantastic. I didn't know his father was Donald? Anything on his wife or siblings?

I hope you don't mind me throwing all these questions at you, but it is so good to be able to ask someone who is so knowledgeable and know what they are talking about.

Again, thank you. Sincerely Maggie (Victoria, Australia)

I am directly descended from John Salmean although the name had become Silmeen by the time it reached me!I believe John originally came from the Aland Islands.I have two queries. John married Marion Mac Dougald a native of North Uist ,and I wondered if you had any information about her.Secondly,my ancestor was John's grandson ,John,but I am unable to make out whose son he was.On his marriage certificate it says Charles Salmean and on his death certificate it says Sacris Salmean.Can you throw any light?
