Evander McIver was descended from John McIver of "Gress House" in Stornaway. I have the lineage recorded. My McIver kinfolk lived in Nashville TN. My great grandmother was Flora McIver. We called her grandmother Flossie. Jeannie

Re: Evander McIver, could there have been a: SARAH ELIZABETH McIVER in you McIver line. My Sarah E. McIver married Judge Ezekiel Augustus Law, 12/21/1832. She was born 4/31/1815 and died 7/28/1885 in Bartow, Polk Co., FL. They had 11 children, one being Brig. General Evander McIver Law in Civil War, another was a Colonel Junius Augustus Law, another Judge John Kolb Law and 8 without titles that I know of. I would be interest in knowing more about the McIver line to add to my genealogy data. Thanks Joan Duke Dallas j.g.duke@worldnet.att.net

Joan, I have searched my files and I have found an Elizabeth Williams who married Evander McIver - brother of John McIver from whom my Evander is descended. The line ends there, but the time is right. Elizabeth's mother was Sally Phillips who married William Williams (a lawyer from North Carolina) in 1807. The only child listed for them was Elizabeth who married Evander. In further search I found that Elizabeth lived only 12 days and Evander married Matilda Wendall of Murphreesboro. They had a daughter, but she died at one year old. He died without heirs.
I did a "google" search on Evander McIver and found several references to his service in the CSA. There were also several interesting references to your relative Evander McIver Law. He is also referenced several times in a "Dogpile" search as a very fine Confederate officer.
I can't connect us, but family trees do split as I've found in other family tree searches who were surprised that our line continued and they had no knowledge of my line. Jeannie Turley

Thanks Jeannie for your timely response. I agree with you that your EM is from a different branch than mine. I think our ancestors had so much fun with the names of their children. Can't you just see them setting on the front porch, rocking gently discussing the names available. Maybe the conversation went like this: "Let's name this child after great great grandfathers dad and we can add my mothers maiden name to child and that will really confuse our descendants when they try to find their families." You know our families for the most part were very educated people. It never fails to amaze me the duplicate names of children in the same time era. Thanks for your effort. Please, if I can ever look something up for you let me know. Joan

I have recently purchased the Evander McIver home in Cameron, Texas. I am looking for the lineage of this family:
Evander McIver had two brothers, John McIver and Donald McIver.
He had four sons: John Bann McIver II, Duncan McIver, Kenneth McIver and Donald McIver.
John Bann Mciver III had 9 children: Duncan McIver, Daniel McIver, John Bann McIver (the home's line), Evander B. McIver, Polly McIver Nicholson, Kenneth McIver, Mary McIver McIntosh, and Katie McIver
John Bann McIver, IIV had 7 children: Westley McIver, Mary Ann McIver, Elisa McIver Leach, WilliamMcIver, John D.McIver, Aarchibald Dalrymple McIver, and Col. Evander J. McIver (the line of this home).
Col. Evander J. McIver had 5 children Charles Arthur McIver, Ella Pitts McIver Pace, Mary Dalrymple McIver Young (Dallie #1)--the line of this home), Flora McIver Streetman, and Estelle McIver Pa____ (unreadable)
Mary Dalrymple Young (Dallie #1) had 7 children: Reba Young, Charles Augustine Young, Dallie Young McIver (Dallie #2), Mary Ann Young, Robert Young and John Young.
The home was then deeded to Dallie's sister Mary's daughter --who had Dallie #3. Mary Dalrumple Young married the famous Milam County Sheriff, Carl Black.

Ms Turley I would greatly appreciate the lineage on Lewis and the first generation in the US. There are very undocumented threads that go back six generations before Roderick emigrated in 1745? to North Carolina but I've been on Lewis and worked with pros without getting much documentation. I have pretty good documentation of the progeny after they reached North Carolina then moved to South Carolina. My mother was a McIver and kept detailed old records I'd be happy to share, but the history on Lewis I believe to be obscured. There are hundreds of McIvers in the Lewis phone books however.

I would also love to know more about the Lewis connection. Can you share any information you have been able to obtain? My information is that Evander B. McIver was the son of Kenneth and brother of Duncan, but don't have more to go on. Burke's peerage says that Kenneth, father of Duncan, emigrated to America about 1772 from Stornoway (Isle of Lewis). Can anyone provide additional information?

Rosalind--
Your information is basically consistent with mine, with your Evander being my Evander B., son of Kenneth, brother of Duncan and others. I show Evander being born in 1712. I have fewer John Bann's than you list, but would mention that Burke's Peerage lists this family as Kenneth, father of Duncan, emigrated from Stornoway (Isle of Lewis) about 1772. Any additional information you have found would be most appreciated.
