BENNIE

I am trying to trace the birth details of my g grandfather.
I know he was John Somerville BINNIE born circa 1842 in Scotland & that his father was listed on his marriage certificate as David BINNIE (a builder). John lived in Liverpool for most of his life and I am having problems with his Scottish roots.
I have searched Scots Origins & the only possible John's born to David's with similar sounding surname around that time was a John BENNIE born to David BENNIE & Elizabeth HUNTER in Abbey (which I understand is an administraion district of Paisley).
You may be wondering what this has to do with you, well I am coming to that. It appears John was a twin and his brother was William BENNIE born on 11/7/1842.
This William BENNIE would certainly have been of age to marry in 1866 and the area is right but that may be the only connection. If you can add any further or can help me then please contact me
(perhaps the William BENNIE who married Margaret LOVE was a relative of "my" William)

The correct marriage date for William and Margaret is 20 Oct 1832. Banns in Polmont and married Falkirk, Margaret's parish.
Contact me as I have other BENNIE dates, and names.

Since last message, I think I have come up with the marriage of David BENNIE to Elizabeth HUNTER only she calls herself Isabel HUNTER (I understand this is common in Scotland) and they married in 1833 in Polmont! Do you know if your William had any brothers...It may explain why David named one of his twin son's William, the other being John (my ancestor). I have sent off for John's birth certificate & also David & Isabel/Elizabeth's wedding certificate so I'll know more shortly about David's parentage & age. All I have is suspicion & conjecture at the moment but I would be very interested in the info you have on your BENNIE's

I'm hoping the extract I've sent off for is the marriage & not the banns (I've been disappointed before). There were 2 references to the event in IGI... 10/8/1833 in Polmont & 7/10/1833 in Laurieston Presbyterian, Falkirk but I only found the August entry in Scots Origins. Perhaps I didn't look properly. Even as I type this I am thinking I am going to get the banns...the later of the 2 dates is more likely to refer to the wedding (unless it's a mistake in the IGI).
Anyway...I'll know more soon hopefully

Finger's crossed

Pippa

You don't happen to know if Agnes and John Caldwell had a daughter named Agnes Nancy Caldwell, born about 1830, she married Hugh Allison born about 1826. That is all the information I have on them. Agnes Nancy and Hugh are my GGGGrandparents. If you have any information, please let me know.
Thank you very much
Kathy

The 1840 will of my gg grandfather, James Love, b. 1776, Falkirk, Stirling, indicates that he and his wife, Isabel McLuckie, b. 1787, Port of Mentieth, had a daughter I didn't know about named Margaret who was married to a collier named William Benny or Bennie and lived at that time in Airdrie. The 1841 Airdrie census shows a William Bennie, age 30, living with Margaret Bennie, age 29, and 3 children, James, 5, Isabela, 3 and Andrew, 1. That would mean that Margaret was b. about 1811 or 12 and William was b. about 1810 or 11, depending on when the census was taken. However, IGI indicates that Margaret Love and William Bennie were married 21 Oct 1832 in Falkirk or Polmont (there are two records), which doesn't exactly match your info and I can't find them in either the 1851 or 1861 census. Quite a coincidence. Could they be related?

I know this is now 8+years on from your post, but i'm hoping you are still actively searching for info, or signing on to Ancestry! Or perhaps someone else will have some info relevant to me!

I'm investigating a different Hugh Allison(my great X3 grandfather), he Married Rosanna McTaig/McTague/Montague in 1854 in Muiravonside and lived at Rumford. He appears to have come over from Ireland With his parents, James & Maggie Baxter Allison, and half a dozen other siblings, Joseph, James, John, William, Mary Jane & Bridget.

My Hugh had a son James born 28.12.57 at Rumford. Your Hugh - or at least another Hugh, married to an Agnes Caldwell Allison, had a son William, born 20.08.57 at Rumford Muiravonside. I am trying to see if there is some connection between the two - surely there must have been!

There are 2 other families having kids in Rumford at that same time who may have been related:-

John & Mary Baxter Allison, who's son Hugh was born 28.12.57 (yes, the same dob as above - its not a mistake!), at Rumford &
Robert and Mary or (I think)Margaret Rooney (various spellings with ie or just 1 o) who had 3 kids registered at Rumford during the 1860's!

Any help or info gratefully rec'd!!

Jane

Once I get my internet back up and running(on a very OLD computer right now), I will send you what I have (if I didn't lose it all when our computer crashed!). If you can send me what you have I would greatly appreciate it. If you message me privately with your email address I will send you my email address.
THANKS and I hope there is a connection I have been searching that line for about 25 years myself and my Dad and his cousin have been doing it for over 35 years--we are all stuck in the same place!
Yes my Hugh is the one married to Agnes Nancy Caldwell (or Cardwell) Allison :)
THANKS for anything you can give me :)
