I have that Robert MODDI/Moddy/Moody/Moodie was born in Orkney in 1590 and d. in 1666 Bjarkoy, Norway and that he married Johanna Esausdatter in Bergen.
That's all I know of this Robert and that's as early back as I have it.
I do know that there were Several Early Robert MOODIE's on Orkney however. A book published in 1906 by the Marquis of Ruvigny and Raineval simply titled The Moodie Book gives a good bit of details about them.
As I have posted a Lot on the MOODY/Moodie/Mudie boards here and at GenForum, my Father's Ydna is known to match to a common Norwegian Haplotype. I believe its the most common haplotype found in Norwegian ydna test results but am not 100% certain of that part as dna is not my interest, I only add this for supports sake.
I Do know that our proven Ydna MOODY family names link Mostly to others who came from Scotland and Many of those families were living in/on Orkney and the Caithness/Thurso areas of North Eastern Scotland. However, the branches of the MOODIE family that were linked to Orkney, who by the way, claim to be of Norweigan ancestry and lived on Orkney (in the Hoy and Kirkwall areas) from about the 1300's and 1400's, also had relatives living on the Western side of Scotland very early on in the Ayrshire area and Perth, Fifeshire etc. and also in some areas of the Highlands of Scotland.
The Moodie's were all over.
There was also another Orcadian MUDIE named John who was a weaver who went to Bergen, Norway in the mid 1600's. He was from Kirkwall, Orkney and a burgess of Bergen, Norway.
His name was spelled as Joen Jacobssen Myddy in the Norwegian records however.
I do not know if he had any relation to your Robert at all.
I can only add that I was born a Moody and that my father's ydna points to a very early Norwegian ancestry whose family lived in Scotland at some point in time and then Possibly removed to Nor. Ireland before coming to America where our family has lived since around the c1750's when my earliest known ancestor came there and in 1774 married my Scottish 5th grt. grandmother.
I would love to know more about this Robert MODDI/Moddy/Moody as he seems quite promising as far as a family link might go. The name Robert MOODY is a fairly common one in some of our Ydna Moody cousins group family trees and there were several of them in Nor. Ireland too.
I hope this is somewhat helpful. If anyone has more info on this Robert Moddi/Moddy/Moody/Moodie/Mudie of Orkney to Norway, please let me know.
Thank You.
