Yes, thanks, that is the one. He and his wife are buried in Grange Cemetery. But back to Alexander.. the marriage reads "28 April Alexander Phimister servt & Margaret Campbel daughter of Andrew Campbell farmer in Garvin county of air -- gave up their names for marriage" [the page heading is 1801].
So my first question "county of air" [Ayr] enough close that they are both "natives of Morayshire" or perhaps that is just the way the notes came down through the family.
My mother had Alexander's death date as "about 1811" and I did find an Alexander OPR death in Alves in 1819 but it is one of those where they just list the year and then the name and the amount paid; so at this point I'm questioning if that even relates to my Alexander.
There was a lovely family in Dallas, Moray with parents of James Phimister and Margaret Dean with good records of their children's birth including an Alexander and I was going with that until I realized, hey, wait a minute, there is no way of telling if that is my Alexander or not... so I took them off and put them aside.
Margaret Campbell died 2 August 1836 "relict of Alexr Phemister" [bless Scotland for preserving maiden names] age 72, of old age at 12 Lauriston Street. [OPR St. Cuthberts] Since Robert lived at Lauriston street all of his recorded life [after census] that makes sense. [except his birth address was 10 Gifford Park, Edinburh]. That was another thing that made me question Alexander of Dallas since if Margaret was 72 in 1836 that makes her birth year 1764 and makes her 37 at the time of marriage to Alexander who would be only 21. Not impossible of course but another thing making me question that one.
So, no to census, they both died before 1841.
Especially thank you for the description of possibly being a coachman for a person who had a residence in both Moray and Edinburgh. That was VERY helpful. In fact I may rest it there with Alexander of unknown parents.
[Robert's wife was from Ayr and there is at least one census where Robert's daughter is visiting her grandparents]
