For many years I have been looking for information on Simon McDonald, writer. My mother always insisted he was a McDonald/ Macdonald from Glencoe. The only documents I have are his son's death record in Glasgow in 1902 which gives his parents as Simon McDonald, writer and Ann McDonald and the 1851 census in Glasgow which records John McDonald born about 1826/7 in Arisaig along with his mother Ann, a widow born about 1801 in Arisaig.
I did come across a baptismal record for a Simon McDonald and his twin sister Margaret in 1794 at Eskadale, St. Mary's. Parents are noted as Donald McDonald and Margaret Cameron in Brulon, Glen Strathfarrar. Godparents John McDonald, James Fraser and Hellen Chisholm. Can anyone tell me if this Simon might be the father of John born 1816 Arisaig?

John was a copper to trade and with his wife Janet Adamson had at least four sets of twins, some born in Fort William area and some in Glasgow.
