I looking to trace my gggrandfather, Angus Cameron McMillan (b. June 15, 1819 in Scotland, d. April 26, 1899 in Brunson, SC). I don't know where in Scotland he was born.
I believe the surname is spelled right, as his only natural child, Edward Angus Cameron McMillan spelled it that way, but I cannot be sure.
The following is taken from notes of my father (Marvin L. Mole) that were told to him by my grandfather (Lewis E. Mole), husband of Angus' granddaughter, Clara Ruth McMillan:
"Ggrandpa Angus Cameron McMillan and his brother, Dougal McMillan were merchant marines of Scotch origin. Their last trip hauling freight they put in port at Port Royal, SC. The freighter was in need of repair and they decided to settle in America. This was probably about the year 1840. Ggrandpa Mc decided to try his luck in the low country and uncle Dougal decided to try the mountains. They were both unmarried, eligible bachlors. In time, ggrandpa Mc met a widow (Clara Claudia Hogarth) who had one son, WLB Brunson by a previous marriage to John W. Bruson and they married.
All that I know about Uncle Dougal is that he married and had one child named Victoria. She married Hewlett Webster Hunt and they lived in the Greenville, SC area. I'm not sure but I believe she was married to a Church or Churchwell or Churchill, the first time. Mr. Hunt was wealthy, owned several city blocks in Greenville. Also, other real estate. He left his wealth to cousin Vic for her lifetime. At her death, it was to go to Walter White or his heirs . There were no children from either marriage"
