Surnames: Laidlaw, Heggie, Williams, Blyth
I have been trying for a few years now to find more information about Jane Heggie, daughter of John Heggie and Mary Williams born in Newburgh, Fife in about 1840. (The family does not show up on the 1841 census.)

In January 1865 Jane married John Laidlaw in Glasgow. John was with the 92nd Highlanders Regimental Foot Soldiers and received a silver medal for his actions in the Indian Mutiny. He was on fatigues at Aldershot until his discharge in December 1865. How and when he met Jane has yet to be discovered.

One possible clue to Jane's heritage is that in the 1891 census a Janet Blyth, age 27, born Newburgh, Fife is listed with the Laidlaw family. Who Jane is and how she connects to Jane Heggie is a mystery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much,

Juli
