It may also be worth checking up to 10 years after the period you think the marriage took place. Some of my ancestors had births of children recorded by the kirk in one 'lump' well after the event. This might happen if they were dissenters who still wanted family events put down on record and I can imagine this happening with marriages as well, although I've not seen it yet.
