Hi Julielaurent58,
From the info I have, you're on the right lines.

According to what I've been told, your Elspet CLARK is dau of Alexander CLARK & Charlotte GORDON, so the 1918 death registration is almost right - it's understandable the informant might get things wrong so I wouldn't worry too much about the anomaly. There are/were several people researching this Alexander CLARK & Charlotte GORDON family, one being g/dau of William AITKEN who was son of George & Elspet AITKEN. I haven't been in contact for quite a while now and their email addresses are no longer valid, but you should be able to find plenty scattered around the internet.

If you let me know your email address, I can give you more info, via GEDCOM or report. I haven't verified much of the info I have, but I've no reason to suppose it's anything other than broadly correct.

Despite being neighbours for some 80 years, my GEDDESes and your CLARKs never intermarried. The CLARKs had to leave their Slogmahole after John CLARK the then tenant died in 1872, and George GEDDES the then tenant of his Slogmahole absorbed the other Slogmahole, a stand of trees is basically all that remains of the site of the CLARK's Slogmahole. The process of changing the GEDDES farm's name from Slogmahole to Newton took quite a few years - Slogmahole was being used as late as 1871, Newto(w)n was being used as early as 1851.

I have CLARKs too - no connection has been made between mine and yours, except that they had neighbouring farms in Rathven way back about 1700 - Carnoch and Connage, so it does seem likely they are related.

On my MESS collateral line, who were also at Slogmahole much earlier than the CLARKs, James MESS marr Helen CLARK (one of yours) there in 1751, and two of their daughters had illeg sons prob by the same James GEDDES, son of James GEDDES tenant of New Park.
