I have found a John
Burnie whose 1856 gravestone states that he was a native of County
Derry, Ireland. He was born in 1772. His wife was Rose/Rosa
Doherty.
I also have a James, Charles, William, Thomas and John
Burnie, who are said to be sons to the above couple. I am a descendant of James
Burnie.
I have been told by other researchers that these Burnies were originally from SW
Scotland and that they removed to Ireland before emigrating to Canada.
I thought I would post this information just in case anyone had any thoughts/recommendations, etc..., as I have come to a wall of sorts. A friend of mine (in
Scotland) suggested that the surname
Burnie originates from the Ayrshire area.
Thank You
Michele
