I am researching Alexander Burnie who, in 1851, married Mary Ritchie at Ochiltree. They then lived at Martha Sloan Farm, Auchlin, about 3 miles from Ochiltree

I have found a John Burnie whose 1856 gravestone states that he was a native of County Derry, Ireland. He was born in 1772. His wife was Rose/Rosa Doherty.
I also have a James, Charles, William, Thomas and John Burnie, who are said to be sons to the above couple. I am a descendant of James Burnie.
I have been told by other researchers that these Burnies were originally from SW Scotland and that they removed to Ireland before emigrating to Canada.
I thought I would post this information just in case anyone had any thoughts/recommendations, etc..., as I have come to a wall of sorts. A friend of mine (in Scotland) suggested that the surname Burnie originates from the Ayrshire area.

Just found your note today and thought that I could help you with some info. My family came from Dalbeattie, Scotland in the south west area. My father Ivie William Burnie was born in Winnipeg, Canada I can give dates and etc. if this is part of your branch. Grandfather's name was also Ivie Burnie born in Dalbeattie, and his father Andrew Burnie born in Dalbeattie. Andrews father was Robert Burnie and had married a Hyslop from the same area. I need help with some of the family members.

My father is from s.w.scotland .His father was George ANDERSON Burnie but died aged 21. He had no more contact with the burnie family.HE WAS BORN 1942 IN DUMFRIES ,ALSO CALLED GEORGE Burnie ,HIS GRANDMOTHER WAS CALLED CATHRINE Burnie WHO LATER MARRIED DAVID RUTLEDGE OR MASON.WONDER IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE INFO THAT COULD BE OF ANY HELP TO US?
