It's a while since I have contacted this message board. I am researching the family of John Archibald from Thirdpart Park Farm, Dalry, who with his wife Margaret Anderson (from Beith) arrived in Australia with their four sons John, James, Hugh and Robert in 1864.
Many kind folk have helped me along the way for which I am extremely grateful.
Now I am back to the 1700's. The custom of nameing eldest sons after their father can be very helpful BUT at times quite confusing.
Last weekend I attended an interesting McNaught family reunion in Shepparton, Victoria, Australia
The families represented McNaught,Young and Kirkwood, of Lochwinnoch, Buntin of Cardross, Archibald of Dalry and Anderson of Beith. Today's Generation were amazed to learn their history.
I have - James McNaught to 1784
Ann Buntin to 1657
John Archibald to 1755
Margaret Kirkwood to 1795
Margaret Anderson is a work in progress !
Yes, you are right, I love finding my Ancestors. Proud of my Scottish Heritage too.
Best wishes and happy hunting,
Ann
