I have three surnames linked to Ayrshire:

Maclachlan - see http://www.my-broun-wyld-stewart-lang-ancestry.org.uk/stewar...

Kennedy - see the above link (marriage to Maclachlan) and also the following: http://www.my-broun-wyld-stewart-lang-ancestry.org.uk/kenned... (there is more than one Kennedy family in my chart)

Rae - see the above link.

I believe that the Maclachlans came from Ireland and the surname would originally have been spelt the Irish way.

I am not sure exactly what part of Ayrshire they were connected to, but the Maclachlans were linked to St Quivox in Ayr. The second Kennedy group may have been connected to the Earls of Cassilis. My website has further details: http://www.my-broun-wyld-stewart-lang-ancestry.org.uk/
