I am trying to contact Julie Freemantle who previously had an email address of "septemberrose@...." which is now apparently disabled. She was looking for info on our common ancestors John McGee & Janet (Jane or Jean) Archibald. Does anyone know of her current email in order that I can contact her. I am at wheechmcgee@hotmail.com.

Hi John,
I can not tell you Julie Freemantle's email, but I do have Archibald's in my family history. Can you tell me a little about your Archibald family during the 1800's. I will then check with my records to see if there is any direct reference.

Thanks,
Greg.

Greg,

I got your message and I will email you direct, however, I do not have a great deal of information on the Archibald lineage.

Thanks for your message,

John

I think that Janet Archibald may have been born in 1782 in Kilbirnie, Ayrshire to father William Archibald and mother Agness Logan. Any link here to your Archibald lineage? I am still trying to find documentary proof that this is the Janet or Jean Archibald who married John McGee around 1800 and were my direct descendants.

PS: I don't know if you ever got my email re my Walker lineage in Scotland as I did not get any reply?

John,
I can not connect with the William Archibald line directly (at this stage) but do connect via Agness Logan. Her parents were Robert logan and Agness Allan. Robert's Parents were George Logan and Margaret Fife who had a daughter, Margaret who married John Law. One of John's sisters, Jean Law, married John Walker, son of Andrew Walker and Jean Jamieson. Andrew's parents were James Walker and Margaret Allan. James' parents were James Walker and Elizabeth Stewart. This James Walker was a son of William Walker and Janet King, who I descent from through another son, Hugh Walker who married Janet Allan.
So if the Jean/Janet Archibald is the person who married John McGee, then we do have a connection through marriages.

Regards,
Greg.

Greg,

This is very interesting stuff on Archibald / Logan connections. If I get confirmation on my Janet Archibald being the daughter of Agness Logan I will get back to you. Interestingly, John & Janet's daughter Mary McG(h)ee married a Fife in Kilbirnie, an Alexander Fife or Fyfe, cabinet maker. I note a Logan / Fife marriage in your lineage.

John

John,
The Logan line the you possibly connect into is my Kilbirnie Logan line which is documented on my website at
http://members.iinet.net.au/~suekirke/K_Connections/connect.... Follow the Kilbirnie family links and then the index of marriages & names. The Archibald / Logan marriage is on this list which will take you to the detail for this family.
The George Logan that married Margaret FIFE was Agness's brother. Her uncle David Logan married Jean FIFE and there are a couple of other FIFE marriages in the Logan line at that time as well.
For Jean (Janet) Archibald I have her christened 5 May 1782 in Kilbirnie from the OPR. Siblings are on the web site.

Hope this helps

Thanks John,

I have talked and have had various communication with Mike Kirke in the past, sharing information. He has an excellent website.

I have a good deal of information on marriages from the Walker's in Kilbirnie and related families. If you find the connection you are looking for I can share this information with you if you require it.

Dear Mike,

Your website is fascinating. I especially liked the William Logan documentation. What a great treasure to have in your family line. As yet, as I have previously mentioned, I have not made a firm connection with the 1782 Jean Archibald of Kilbirnie - still only my best hunch at present. However, if I do make the connection then your website will be invaluable for the Logan line. It so happens that I visited the Mitchell Library in Glasgow on Monday to look up a few OPRs, which included the following on microfilm:-

Kilbirnie OPR 596/1/P195 (1782)
"Jean laul Daur to William Archibald in Kegle of Lochwinnoch and Agness Logan - May 5"

Yours sincerely

John McGee

Greg,

Thanks for the info. Mike Kirke has been in touch through the message board and I have looked at his great website. Still no firm connection as yet, but I am ever hopeful and if so I will be back in touch with 2 interesting Ozzies.

Yours sincerely

John McGee
