Thomas Davis Maybole Ireland Weaver 1811-1886

Hello. I am stuck with a family and wondered if anyone had any suggestions. George Davis (born around 1766 in Ireland) and his wife Helen (don't know maiden name, born around 1776 in Ireland) and their son, Thomas (born between 1811 and 1819 in Ireland) appear in the 1841 and 1851 census for Maybole in the Welltrees area. They were cotton weavers. Thomas married his first wife Helen in 1836 in Kirkmichael and Maybole (banns in both towns). I am unsure if there is any way to determine from where in Ireland this family came. From what I understand, there were quite a few immigrants from Ireland into Scotland that were ancestors of people from Scotland sent to Ireland? This is where I get a little confused.
Thanks,
Kelly

Hi Kelly,

Did either of the marriage entries in the OPRs state where Thomas was born?

During that time period, they werent really `immigrants` moving from Ireland to Scotland as both countries were part of the UK, so they were just moving from one part to another.

As the parents of Thomas were OAPs in the 1841 and 1851 censuses, have you checked the Poor Relief for Maybole to see if they made a claim there? These have not been indexed yet and a list of the LDS Film Numbers are on the Maybole site at: http://www.maybole.org/history/Archives/fhlfilms.htm

Once you have a date and location you can check for MIs to see if their birth location is mentioned on their headstone.

Hi Kelly,

As Alex says, strongly recommend chasing MI's or, better, see if you can get someone fron the Ayrshire list who lives in Ayrshire to go speak to the cemetary officers in Maybole itself.
My cousin did thsi & found out the names of our incoming ancestors father & mother - & we are farliy sure we have now tracked them on the IGI in Antrim
(Oddly, my ancestor was a Thomas (mckinstry) married to a Helen, too)

Good luck

Hello. Thanks for all of your help. I have looked through the MI's from the local books (I think it's the Ayrshire Family History Society that put them together) does anyone know if this would include all of the MIs for the cemetary they cover?
Thanks again,
Kelly
