Seek ancestry, desc. of THOMAS GILLAN and wife JESSIE. They had a son JAMES GILLAN (1785-1875) somewhere in Ayrshire. Have been trying to find out where since 1988! James emigrated to Canada and settled first in Northesk, New Brunswick about 1817, then moved to Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia, where he died. He married MARY SHORTALL and they have many descendants all over the United States and Canada. Any info. appreciated. Thanks. MATT BARKER

Hi
I have come accross the name Gillan in my family tree
a William Gillan born 1838 in Forres Moray Scotland his parents are given as Francis Gillan and Catherine Davidson .
William married into the Oliver side of my tree .
Don't know if his father had any siblings to which you could connect William emigrated to Australia.

Thank-you for your reply. I will keep my eyes open for your William. Any Gillan could be related to me, so I am keeping an account of all Gillans (Gillen, Gillon, etc) I find anywhere. My ancestor James Gillan (1785-1875) possibly had brothers John and William who also emigrated to New Brunswick
