I'm trying to locate Scotland information on John McRobie married to Elizabeth Cross and children; 1) John Cross 2) William Orme born 8 Jan 1837 - 3) Margaret 4) James 5) Jane 6) another Margaret 7) Elizabeth 8) Jemima all were born (prior to 1850) in Burrelton-Cargill parish or Blairgowie(Rattram) Perth, except #8 Jemima, might have been born in Ayr. 1850 they emigrated to Montreal, Manitoba, Canada.

Elizabeth Cross was born in Buckie, Banffshire.

William Orme McRobie married Ellen (baptized Hellen) Craib in Montreal, Manitoba, Canada in 1859. Her family also emigrated from Scotland to Canada but, I don't know where from.

Montreal is located in the Province of Quebec ... not Manitoba.

This may be your family in the 1881 Census ... the 50 year old John McRobie may be the son and the 73 year old Elizabeth at the bottom may be his mother.

I thought I goofed.............of course I realized as soon as I had hit the sent button that I had made a mistake. I know that Montreal is in Quebec. Sorry

My John was born in 1859. I'm also searching in Winnipeg for his father (William Orme McRobie) and get the two provinces mixed up. Sorry.

I may be able to tie this family in one of these days but, for now I don't think this is the family of my William, since he was born in 1837.

Did you see this entry on the Manitoba BDM site ... it could be your William ... the age would be a match .. and don't worry about the middle name beging incorrect ... my grandfather's name was entered incorrectly on his marriage registration input but recorded correctly on the certificate itself ...
