Trying to trace my g grandfather, b abt 1863, married a Mary McKechnie and had a daughter Mary Findlay who married John Smillie on the 3/10/1902 at New Cumnock, Ayrshire.
I don't know if the family actually came from New Cumnock. Would appreciate any help........................

There is just a possibility that we might be related.

My Gr Grandfather William McCrae b.1813 and married 1849 to Agness Findlay b.1820.
Agness had a brother called William Findlay b.1814 and married in Kilmarnock in 1843 to Agnes Cuthbertson b.1819.
They had 10 children and the 9th child was;
John Findlay b.Dundonald 4/1/1864.
This record is in the IGI.

I do not have any thing else, if it were to be the correct record it could be that you would be giving me some info.

Just to cause confusion the IGI show a;
William Findlay b 7/1/1864 Old cumnock
Mother Jane Findlay.

I do not have a William John Findlay and I cannot find one on the IGI.
