I am researching the Ramsay ancestry from here in Rockville, Maryland
USA. William Gray Ramsay (1842-?), James Ramsay (1851-1916) and Mary
(1849-?) all emigrated to the U.S., probably in the 1860s. I'd
appreciate any additional information on this, my wife's, ancestry.

On 18 Apr 1841 when William was 21, he married Mary GRAY, possibly
daughter of Robert GRAY & Grace GOOD, in Kirkoswald, Ayr, Strathclyde,
Scotland. Born on 8 Jun 1820 in Kirkoswald, Ayr, Strathclyde, Scotland.
Mary died in Scotland,.

They had the following children:

4 iii. Mary (1849-)
5 iv. James (1851-1916)
6 v. Anne (1852-)

Online IGI also shows the birth of Elizabeth on 11 MAY 1845 to William
and Mary. There were 34 entries for the children of this couple, some are in the OPRs and others have been added to the IGI by LDS members searching this family.

I found the family in the 1851 census index, you will still need to look at the actual census record to obtain the rest of the information. You can order the film at your nearest LDS FHC, ask the local historian or hire a researcher.

You say the children all moved to the US in the 1860s yet the parents remained behind? Do you know when the parents died? If not, this should be your next lookup. You can search for post 1855 deaths on Scotland People [details in the how to guide below] pre 1855 search to see if there are any MIs published or ask the local historian.

Grace Good died 25 Aug 1866, age 66, of cancer "no recent medical attention", (poor woman!) at Mount Charles Cottages by Ayr, father James Good, labourer deceased, husband (Robert Gray) present.
