Harriet Moffat was listed as the mother of Donald McKellar, on his death certificate, when he died in Kilsyth on 29 Jun 1897. He was buried in Inverary, Kilmalou Cemetery. Donald's father was named John on the same certificate.

On the 1851 Census, a Janet McKellar, mother, was listed in Donald's home and was born in Ayrshire, Ayr. Her age was 82, thus was born about 1769.
