If I were to travel to Glasgow, where would I look for birth, death & marriage certificates for a family known to reside in Stewarton, Ayr between 1877 & 1903?

The genealoy centre at Park Circus in Glasgow would have the records you want. They only have records covering Strathclyde till 1992, if you needed outside Strathclyde you would need to visit Edinburgh.

Can I plead stupidity & ask if Strathclyde is an area larger than a county? I know very little about Scotland - and only that the family I'm seeking was living in Stewarton. I was told that Stewarton is in the county of Ayr.

I'm just trying to pin down the info since my son-in-law will be in Glasgow this week & I don't want to send him to this place if the records for Stewarton aren't held there.

Strathclyde is very large, it was an old region and used to be used till the political boundaries were re-drawn. It covers many counties and yes records for Stewarton will be there.
