Looking for children born to Peter McCormick and Margaret McFadzen in Coylton, Ayrshire between 1822 & 1842. Old Parish records reveal nothing. I have traced two sons, Peter & Daniel, but suspect there would have been more, including daughters. Can anyone help?

Hi Trish,

Email the local historian and ask for a lookup in the Ayrshire OPR Birth Index.

Kind Regards

My grandfather (5 generations removed) Matthew Wardrop married an Anne McCormick in 1857 in Galston, East Ayrshire. Anne was born in 1836 in Monaghan, Ireland and immigrated with her parents John and Mary Anne McCormick. Matthew and Anne had 10 known children - could be a possible link.

Janet was direct relation of mine. She married Allan Gibson in 1848 in Ochiltree and they had 5 children

Hello there!

We are some sort of cousin removed. Peter McCormick was my ggxgrandfather and the only information I have, before his marriage in 1822, is that he was born in Ireland c.1792. If you have any definite location I would be very pleased to hear it.

I have moved on a bit since I posted the message you saw. Peter and Margaret had ten children, five girls and five boys and I have managed to trace descendants for all of them apart from two of the girls (twins) Isabella and Margaret. All ten children survived to adulthood. I have never actually found proof that Mary was their daughter, although I am 99%
sure she was, from naming pattern and the fact that her husband, Henry Gibson, was witness at two other family weddings. I belive Henry Gibson and Allan Gibson were cousins.

My line is from Janet's brother, also named Peter born 1835, and his son Allan who was probably named after Allan Gibson.

Incidentally, I have eight children for Janet and Allan Gibson and would be happy to supply details if you would like them.

Regards
Trish
