Please let me clarify the Boyd of Kilmarnock to Hays of Errol statement. William Boyd 4th Earl of Kilmarnock was beheaded for High Treason at Tower Hill 1746 for having supported Bonnie Prince Charlie. His son and heir James Boyd (1726-78) changed his surname to Hay in 1758 when he inherited the Errol title via his mother and became James Hay 15th Earl of Errol. His son used the name William Carr-Hay, 17th Earl of Errol. So... although the lands and titles were confiscated, the Boyd family exists to this day under the name of Hay.
