Janet Lyon married John Parker on 1st Feb 1823, Loudoun.
They had nine children.

Agnes Parker (b. 1825) married James Mitchell 15th June 1849 Kilmarnock.

Would be great to hear from anyone with any info.

I am researching the Lyon family and have some information on the Parker/Lyon connection.
Thomas Lyon and Agnes Young also had Andrew b. 1798, another Janet b. 1800.(died)
Did Grizell Lyon m. Thomas Turner 1835 Fenwick?
Andrew Lyon m. Mary Parker b. 1798 in 1824 Loudoun and they had; Jean Smith Lyon 1825, Thomas 1827, Allan 1829, James 1831, John 1834, Archibold 1835, John 1836, Agnes 1838, Allan Parker Lyon 1840
Catherine m. John Hepburn 1826, james m. Jean Brown 1846, Archibold m. Agnes Muir 1844- all Loudoun.
The family used the scottish naming system well making it a bit easier to track.
Agnes Young's parents were possibly James and Grizell Young, Loudoun.. and Thomas's father was possibly Andrew Lyon
Lots of checking to do here. Regards Dorothy

Thanks for reply. Didn't know about Andrew or the other Janet. Don't know about Grizel's husband either I'm afraid. Thanks for other info.

Haven't been able to ascertain parents for Agnes Young but had spotted James and Grizel Young as possibles - along with Archibald Young and Agnes Lyon, also a Loudoun couple with likely names.

No luck with Thomas Lyon either, so far no hard dates for birth or parentage, but I guess if the eldest son was Andrew there's a strong possibility that was his name. Its finding the proof thats the problem!

I'd be interested if you find anything else - keep in touch.
Thomas Lyon is my Gr gr gr gr grandfather.

Hi
Thanks for reply. I have Janet Lyonb. 8th March 1802 Loudoun from GROS sources. I have her with ten kids with John Parker. They may be different Agneses or maybe she married twice and had a great many children but when she died on 6th March 1884 she was the wife of James Mitchell. Have copy of death entry stating she is daughter of John Parker and Janet Lyon. She is my gr gr grandmother.

There seem to be a number of people in the same area, probably all related, with duplicate names e.g there seem to be two Agnes Parkers married to James Mitchell in 1849 - one on 26th May in Loudoun, and one on 15th June in Kilmarnock . I know mine is the Kilmarnock one as the marrige date is stated on the birth entry of Grace Jane Mitchell, my Gr Grand mother, but it can be very confusing!

I would like to know more about the Parkers - I have the parents of John Parker as Allan Parker and Agnes Smith now, after visit to the John Parker/Janet Lyon grave which gave me a date for death and so to his parents names from the death entry at GROS. If you have any other info on Parkers I'd be interested to exchange info. I have a sister of John, Mary b.1798 but don't know of any other siblings yet.

Thanks for your reply all the info Margaret. I must have missed a couple of Parker/Lyon children. Just discovered Grace Parker at the weekend on the gravestone. Do you have a pic of that stone? Willing to send one. Its about 300K, I think, but pretrty clear and you can read most of the text.

I've been racking my brains trying to think if I've missed something crucial about Agnes Parker. I've had it kindly pointed out to me that the two Agnes Parkers married to James Mitchell are in fact the same one - once for banns in Loudoun and once for the marriage at KIlmarnock. Silly me. But that aside do you think she have been married twice? I don't know... Where did you find Andrew Miller? How does he fit in?
Best wishes, Lesley

I have been researching the Parker/Lyon family for about ten years now and am connected through Mary Parker daughter of John and Janet (Lyon) Parker. I have some information which was sent to me by a lady in Canada on John Adam b 1860, son of Jean Parker/James Adam, which I am willing to send to you if it is of interest.
