My g-grandparents are from
Cornwall, but they lived in
Scotland before emigrating to northern
Michigan in the USA. This is the birth record of my great aunt:
Emma Elisabeth
Goodmanborn January 08, 1871
Loudoun,
Ayr,
ScotlandBatch number: C116031 International Genealogical Index
Father: Samuel
Goodman [b. February 22, 1836, son of Sam
Goodman and Elizabeth
Maker]
Mother: Elisabeth Broad [b. March 01, 1840, daughter of William Broad].
I don't know where in
Cornwall they came from. They emigrated to the
Hancock,
Michigan in the US in 1872 with their three children, this baby and my grandfather William Broad
Goodman [b. April 01, 1866] and Jane Ann
Goodman [b. May 21, 1860]. I suspect they moved from
Cornwall to
Scotland for employment. Samuel was a miner and there was an economic collapse of the mining industry in
Cornwall in 1866. Family lore say the Goodmans moved from "Knitsticks" -- I am spelling that phonetically from the tales. Is there a street, or neighborhood, or mine, or something in
Ayr that might be "Knitsticks"? Are strays recorded in
Ayr? My g-grandfather was a
Mason and I think they were Methodists. What records might I search?
Thank you!!
