My great great grandfather George Witherspoon resided in Peterhead, Scotland in the early 1800s. He was born in 1792 but I don't know the exact location. He was a widower when he married Jane Gardener and the service was conducted in the John Knox faith. Their first son was named Robert and was born in 1842. He moved down to Dover, Kent and married Frances Colyer and one of their sons Philip became my grandfather. I'm not sure of George's first wife's name but it could have been Ann Ogsten. I would like to know if my Witherspoon line is connected to John the Signer who emigrated to New Jersey. I would be pleased to hear from anyone that can assist me. My Witherspoon line is still living in Kent England and I have two sons to carry on with this famous name.
