Hello, Jacqueline.
I haven't found where exactly they came from, just that it is Ayrshire. SInce the Muirs are supposed to be related, and I have seen sources that say they were from the same town, they should be from either Irvine or Kilmarnock. Last summer I was in touch with someone over there who thought his line might be realted, but haven't heard anything.
I have a lot of info once they arrived in Canada.
My line is through Archibald, then William, then Arthur (my grandfather). What is your line?
I do not know Mary/Margaret's maiden name either, we knew her as Mary as well, but apparently her grave stone says Margaret (and I read somewhere that at that time the two names are sometimes interchangeable).
Do you have any pictures?
I had read that someone had pictures in a reference.
Let me know if you'd like to swap Canada info.
Do you have a copy of JC McGregor's book "The Klondyke Gold Rush"? I have been trying to find one. It is mentioned in one book that talks about the family. My Greatgrandfather went with him to Dawson, so I thought he might be mentioned in the book. I found one used book dealer who said he remembered seeing two copies of it a long time ago. I can not find it mentioned anywhere else.
Good to hear from you, Trish
