This is a monthly update of the 1841 Ayrshire Free Census Project. For more information about the project, please visit the web site at
http://www.speakeasy.org/~jgribble/ayr.htmlThe Ayrshire project was launched in April and to date all parishes but one (
Ochiltree) have been assigned for transcription. 17 transcriptions are completed and 9 are being double-checked before posting online.
Our biggest need is for people to double-check the transcriptions. None of the completed transcriptions can be posted online until they have been checked and we currently have more transcriptions available than checkers.
To check, you need a computer running
Windows and access to a microfilm/microfiche reader. It is preferable if the computer and reader are in the same location or that you are able to make printed copies of the census returns. All film/fiche, software, and instructions are provided.
Location is no barrier to participation, this project is a global online venture designed for ordinary family historians wherever they are, who would like to make a contribution to our great hobby.
