Hello,

I am posting this to announce the launch of the Ayrshire Free Census project. This is part of the larger UK Free Census Project - an Internet-based 'free-to-view' database that will enable researchers to view details of UK Censuses between the years 1841 and 1891, especially the ability to search by surname across census years and counties.

Great progress has already been made for many English and Welsh counties on the 1891 census. The Ayrshire project is starting with the 1841 census and will be the first Scottish county included in this effort. I am the county coordinator and am sending out an appeal for transcribers for all Ayrshire parishes.

All you need to take part is a computer and access to a microfiche reader. We supply everything else including the microfiche and the software. This project is a global online venture designed for ordinary family historians
wherever they are, who would like to make a contribution to our great hobby.

I am researching the my Hardie family from Girvan and Old Dumbarton in Ayrshire. I am interested in the John Hardie and Jessie Miller family and ancestors and the parents of Isabella McLean and their families. These are the parents and wife of my great grandfather John Miller McFarlane Hardie. I will be willing to share my on hand information on John and Isabella that I already have.

I am researching my Hardie family from Ayrshire also. My family used the naming pattern. I noticed that you have alot of the same names mentioned in your posting. My great great grandfather was James Hardie who married Catherine Marshall.( I have no dates for these two). They had two sons that I know of , William Davey Hardie who Married Jane Elizabeth Buchanan in 1916. The other son is George Gemmell Hardie (still waiting for the information on this family member). Hi Jeanne,

None of the information is available online yet. The project was only launched this month and we are still in the "transcription" phase.

I will post again to the board/list when the first parishes start going online.
