Looking for infromation on my GG granfather John Arthur Devlin born Ireland about 1831 moved to Aryshire deid 25th dec 1899 at Ayr he was married to a Mary Usheror Margaret usher any thing about their parents and children would be a great help

I would be most interested to learn the parentage of the Margaret/Mary USHER you mention who married John Arthur DEVLIN at Gretna Green in 1856.

I have rather alot of information on Ushers born in Scotland, but due to the marriage being at Gretna Green she could quite easily have been from England or Ireland.

I do have one Mary and one Margaret that could be possible fits though.

Have you been able to order a copy of the marriage certificate or looked it up on an IGI microfilm ?

Jane Devlin was born 18th November 1887 Illegitimate Her parents were Peter Devlin Coal Miner and Janet Anderson Farm Servant, Main Street, Auchinleck, Ayr

She was 20 when she married in 1907 parents same still living at Main St.

Janie and Jean are the same name I have had this problem with my family born Jean and then called Jane afterwards.

Re Devlins/Greens
Jean Devlin and henry Green were my mother's aunt and uncle.
It looks as if your grandmother and my grandmother were sisters. I have a fair bit of info about this Devlin family. Jean and Henry are buried in Auchinleck cemetry with their son Peter Green who died aged 1year 10 months in 1913 and also Jean's Grandfather Alexander Anderson who died in 1909aged 74 yrs. Jeans parents were Peter Devlin born 18th March 1864 (Auchinleck) and Janet nee Anderson born 10th March 1867 (Riccarton).
Peters parents were Arthur Devlin and Ann Andrew
Janets parents were Alexander Anderson and Jean Dunlop.
Is you grandmother the Jane who was born in 1887? Do you know how many siblings she had?

I am a bit late to the message posts as I just came across it today. I've been working on the Devlin family from Ayrshire for a number of years and visited the Auchinleck cemetery last year. My name is Margaret Devlin from Prestwick Ayrshire.I am also tracing the family tree. My father was George Arthur Bryan Devlin,my g/father Arthur and Margaret Brodie,my gg/father was Peter and Janet Anderson, ggg/father was Arthur and Ann Andrews,and gggg/father Peter and Catherine Mc Connell.
That takes us back to 1800.I am trying to fill in the children now then the g/children.
There is only one son alive now and that is uncle Bobby who lives in Sunderland. Take a look at my tree maybe you can help fill it in as well.

do you have a family tree, that i could look at.i have managed to go as far back to peter devlin 1801 but have not found out where he came from as ther have been census's that say he came from out side scotland , and others that say scotland, can you put any light on this matter.

hi my grandfather was your g/fathers brother, he was called arthur,he was born 1889, married margaret brodie 8th june 1912 in 21 hope st. blytheswood glasgow.he died 1 oct 1949.
he had 16 children, some who are still alive and living in canada,and durham england.my father was called george,he died in 1991,we lived in prestwick ayrhire.
