I am in contact with a number of researchers interested in the HOWAT surname and its variants. Another variant you need to consider is HIGHET. I'll let you know if I think I can make a connetion. Meanwhile, why don't you have a look at my GenConnect Family page given below. I expect to update this with further HOWAT entries within the next few weeks, so also check in a couple of weeks time. You might also want to post a message on the HOWAT surname message board at http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/surnames/h/o/HOWAT/queries

I have many of the same names, but different generations than what you are looking for. Possibly a connection?
I am not sure because some of the line I come through changed the spelling several times over time. I have them in the Ayr area, though through the mid to early 1700's. I actually have two different lines that I am working.
Would love to communicate if you think there may be a connection.

Hallo,

Can you help clarify something for me. I understand that Andrew Strachan, son of Robert and Jeanie Kelly married Elizabeth Howat. From your evidence it seems that the two families were very closely related connected in that Elizabeth's brother married Andrew's sister? Am I correct?
Thank you.
Shannon

Hi Ewan

Good to hear from you

It has been quite a while since I heard from you.
Anyway I had just been looking at my e mails when I saw your interest in Andrew Strachan and Elizabeth Howat.

This is my direct line. I didn't know you had connections with them. Their son James Strachan b1840 is my
GG grandfather he married Mary Lindsay. I have made contact with someone else on this line in the last few days which is great, however it has been a while since I looked at my Strachan line so will have to look out my info on them.

Regards Angela C

Hi Angela

Nice to hear from you. My interest lies in the son Robert born circa 1832.

From his marriage to Ann BAIN and their eldest son Andrew who marries Margaret C. STEED the daughter of my great grandfather.

Do you still have the data for the "TAIT" family please? If so would love to see that again for my next visit to Edinburgh.

Speak to you soon.

Ewan

Hi Ewan

Sorry, it has taken me some time to reply, doing too many things at the same time.

We will need to share the info on that our common branch of the Strachan's.

I have 8 children to Robert Strachan and Anne Bain, but only 2 death's for the children. Clearly I have not been working on the Strachan's in the 1800's for some, but I have been trying to get them back from Thomas. The name however in the 1700's has lot of spelling variants
I will also send you the Tait gedcom to your e mail address if I can find it

Angela
