I am doing research for a friend of mine and her gr. grandfather was John McBroom White. She said he was Scotch Irish which is originally Scotish and sent to Ireland. His father Benjamin White came to Ohio but I don't know when. Does anyone have any info on these names?

As far as I have heard, McBroom is Scottish Highland in origin--- my McBrooms were originally from Kirkaudbright, Scotland in the 1600s...

Melissa , I don't have a lot on the McBrooms either but I have McBrooms in my family line and they were origianlly from Kirkcudbright Scotland. One being David McBroom who died in l580. He was married to Marion Dicksoun. They had one child named Robert born in l560. If this helps I hope that we can find a way to help each other. Thanks Deea

Yes I am descended from David and Marion McBroom. There is a website I found that gives a history on the McBroom family, I don't know how accurate it is, as the person who wrote it insists that the McBrooms were neither highlanders or lowlanders, but that they were a small family that lived in a southwestern district called Galloway-
Everything else I have found indicates Kirkcudbright, though..... and also, I'm not very well educated on Scottish history, but I thought all people from scotland in that time period fell into either highland or lowland clans? But anyways, which line do you descend through?

Melissa,
I think people tended to mix a bit more than used to be thought - but equally you could be right about Galloway. I'm sure that my McKinstray/McKinstry roots are from Galloway (Buittle, Newton Stewart, etc) but my people went to Ulster at some point. I have (I think) an Andrew McKinstry marrying Jane McBroom in Ballyeaston, Antrim in 1815. At least one of their sons returned to Scotland - to Ayrshire - whre my line starts properly

I know your post is a old one but just now found it.
You say there is an McBroom History on the Internet.
Do you know where it can be found.
