ALEXANDER PRENTICE was born in the early 1800s at an unknown location. He was living in Gadgirth, Ayrshire, Scotland at the time of the birth of his son, James. Gadgirth lies about 5-6 miles east of the coastal town of Ayr and is about 30-40 miles SW of Glasgow.

Alexander emigrated to New Zealand on the ship, "Timaru" in 1879. He died in Dunedin in 1936.

Alexander married Marian Reid. They had at least one son, James Reid PRENTICE born in Gadgirth. They also had additional children, but their names are not certain; they may be named William, John, Elizabeth and Sarah.

Not sure if this is the same prentice. My grandfathr was David Murray b. 1892. His mother was a Prentice. He was born in Ayrshire. I know of a second cousin Tommy Prentice b1886 and his decendents.
