Was delighted to hear from you, Nancy, and wish I could work on the DUNLOPS now, but am tracing another line here in Virginia, and at age 85 I can't seem to keep two balls (i.e. two genealogical lines) going at once.

Thank you for thinking of me.

Will contact you again as soon as I finish this other line, and hope you will still be interested.

Kate

Shaun,

my grandfather was Robert Smillie, but he was born in 1901. He moved to Ladysmith, BC Canada. He was a coal miner and married Gertrude Telford. They had 4 sons, William, Robert, Gordon and Thomas (my dad). Sadly grandpa passed away in 1996 but the clan is growing by leaps and bounds.

I have something interesting in my possesion and I am trying to figure out what is what here. I have a "Publication for notice of Marriage" by Alice McEwen, my Great Grandmother, whose Mother was Ellen (M.S.Kennedy) McEwen Dunlop. I have an address of 29 Waggon Road for Alice. This is dated April of 1925 and I know that my Grandmother Helen Kennedy Briody was born to Alice at Ellen's home at 29 Waggon Rd. on April 17, 1926. I also know that Ellen passed away in 1939. What we didn't know was the first name of the Dunlop that Ellen married and how long were they married? I hope Thomas is the Dunlop we are looking for. Ellen had several children with her first husband James McEwen, who was killed in a railroad accident.Do you have any knowledge about that on Ellen's side? My G. Grandmother Alice was not James' child, nor was she Mr. Dunlop's child. Alice was the result of an affair but Mr. Dunlop took care of her as far as we knew. My G.G. Grandmother Ellen would not speak of these things nor would my G. Grandmother Alice. We know the name of Alice's real father, it was put on her death certificate. But for family interest we were wondering who Mr. Dunlop was? I know we are not blood related, you and I, but we all find the whole thing rather interesting.
Thankyou for your time,
Jamie
