My forefather William McGavin was from Minishant Ayrshire and married a Janet Dalziel in Dec 1847 at Paisley. We understand that his parents were a John McGavin and a Margaret Gowdy. Estimate his birth was 1822/23? I am new to this and this information may be of no use. We can find no other links to them.

Regards
Alex McGavin

Hi, Are you still researching the Mcgavins in Mauchline?
I have just been trying to establish a link between the Mauchline Mcgavins and my gggx3 grandfather James who was Blacksmith in Kilbarchan(c)1770. I had wondered if William Blacksmith from the Haugh, married to Mgt Merry and born (c)1782 could be my gggx3 grandfathers brother as the trade of Blacksmith does seem to stay within the family.
I have not been able to find who Williams parents were and wondered if you have had any better luck. Regards, JAP.
