I have not yet proved the birth of William LAMBIE. All I know for sure is that he married Margaret ORR in 1828 in Auchlinleck, AYR and had 3 children in Muirkirk, AYR 1829 - 1834 and then another 4 in Avondale, LKS 1835 - 1840.

I am still trying to find a census record for any of this family in either the 1841 or 1851 census. Because they seemed to have moved arround a bit (they were shepherds), I just have to plod through likely parishes. I know that the son George married in Lockwinnoch in 1858 did not leave Scotland until 1861. If I could find one census with a birthplace, I would feel more confident as to whether or not there were links with your LAMBIE family.

On the 1851 Index I found the follwing in Mauchline:
William born 1796
Margaret born 1802
Elizabeth born 1837
William born 1841
Margaret born 1842
Mary born 1843
George born 1845

Can check the actual index if you wish.

Thank you for posting that information. Although it is not my family, it is another parish that I can cross off/leave till the end of checking all the parishes for the 1841/1851 census. It takes such a long time for some of the films to arrive, that sometimes I forget that I have ordered them. I have now made up a list and write when I order and when I get them.

Thanks once again for taking the trouble to post the information

Most likely, and with a high probability, it was 'LAMBIE'. If you have any dates I could check and see what the spelling was and how it changed for you.

My great grandmother was Jean/Jane Lambie Napier. Jane married John Napier June 7th, l866 at Cambusnethan, Lanark, Scotland. Their children Margaret Orr, August 3, l867 & Jennie, February 2, 1869 were born in Scotland. They came to the US about 1870 to Kansas City for John worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. I found them in the 1870 North Platte, NE census. My grandmother, Janet (Jessie) Lambie Napier was born there May 29, 1871. From there they went to Cheyenne, WY, then went back to Scotland when Grandma was 2 years old. Mary Kirk Napier was born October 27, 1876 in Scotland. They then came back to Cheyenne, WY where John Napier is suppose to have died but I have not found any death certificate in WY yet. Jane then came to SD, ran a boarding house at Forest City, SD. Sne later married a James Black. Jane died May 2, l914 & is buried at Gettysburg, SD. I have a picture of Margaret Orr Lambie & the John & Jane Napier family.
If you have any further information that i do not have, I would sincerely appreciate receiving it. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you, Edith

I was really interested in your message. Sorry about the delay in replying as I have been on leave for the past month, and I am just catching up.

Do you know when Jean LAMBIE was born? I feel that there is a connection. I base this on the fact that she named her first daughter Margaret Orr.

In my family William LAMBIE married Margaret Orr in 1828. I know of seven children including a Jean LAMBIE baptised 29 Mar 1840. She was a twin to a Thomas. I have NOT found a death for either of these children, so it appears that they lived to adulthood. She would make her about the right age for your Jean LAMBIE.

Looking forward to hearing from you
