I have an Agnes Lambie who died 1790 in Riccarton,Ayr. She was married to James Howie b. 1721 in Riccarton. Is there any connection?

Janet LAMMIE b 13 Jun 1834, bapt 13 Jul 1834 at Muirkirk married William Prentice 18 Dec 1857
John Lambie bapt 13 Nov 1835 at Avondale, LKS, SCT
Margaret Lambie bapt 23 Jul 1837 at Avondale, LKS, SCT
Thomas and Jean (Twins) bapt 29 Mar 1840 at Avondale, LKS, SCT

I would love to have details of your LAMBIE/NAPIER line. I am using a genealogy program (Legacy) so if you can GEDCOM, I can cope with that.

I have all of George LAMBIE's family in NZ, down to the present. Would you like a GEDCOM, or would you prefer a paper copy of my line.

I have not yet identified the birth parish of William Lambie. I have been unable to find him and his family in a census record. Have you stumbled over him at all. I know that they are not in Avondale in the 1841 and 1851 census. I would dearly love to find them in the 1851 census, as that gives the parish of birth, and that would help clinch the matter.

I am finally getting back to you about Jean (Jane) Lambie who married John Napier June 7, 1866, Cambusnethan, Lanark, Scotland. They had 4 daughters:

Margaret Orr Napier born August 3, 1867, Scotland, married James Buey; died March 28, 1954, Oceanside, San Diego County, CA ; buried at Oceanside, CA.

Jennie Mitchell Napier born February 2, 1869, married James Tuttle; we have no information about Jennie but do know her childrens names were Myra, May & John. I'm still looking for information about them.

Janet (Jessie) Napier born May 29, 1871, North Platte, Lincoln County, Nebraska; married Edwin DeLoss Sutton January 1, 1894, Forest City, Potter County, South Dakota; died March 27, 1940, Pierre, Hughes County, SD; buried Onida, Sully County, SD. Jessie is my grandmother.

Mary Kirk Napier born October 27, 1876, Scotland; married William Ripley May 25, 1897, Forest City, Potter County, SD; died February 25, 1944, Gettysburg, Potter County, SD, buried in Gettysburg.

When John & Jean (Jane) Lambie Napier came to the US from Scotland, they came to the Kansas City, Kansas area where he worked for the Union Pacfic Railroad. I have listed on the North Platte, NE 1870 Census& owning a house there. They then went to Cheyenne, Wyoming all the time working for the Union Pacfic Railroad. They went back to Scotland when Grandma was 2 years old where Aunt Mary was born in 1876. They returned to Cheyenne, Wy where John Napier ddied in 1880. Jean then came to South Dakota with her 4 daughters settling at Forest City, SD where she ran a boarding house. She married James Black. He died from a rattlesnake bite. Jean died at her daughter, Jessie Sutton's home at Agar, SD. James & Jean Black are buried in Gettysburg, SD
It is great to know we are related. We were in the South Island of NZ in 1987 & again the North Island in1990, beautiful country.
I am not to sure but I could have William Lambie's parents as John Lambie & Margaret Black because they have a William Lambie listed as born January 22, 1806, Mauchline, Ayr, Scotland. His father was born July 27, 1792, Mauchline, Ayr, Scotland. Where his mother was born I don't have.


He has brothers & sisters:

I got this from the LDS Family History Center from their Scottish files. I am going to check them again to see if I have it right. Did you ever come up with these names?

Ewan, i saw your message on the ancestry message board.You have a George Lammie being born in 1845 along with his siblings. I think that this George is my Grt Grt Grandfather, i havent been able to find any info on him, except that he married Jane Wilson,their daughter Jessie my Grt Grandmother married William Young in 1898 she was 21 when she married making her born around 1877 she had a few sibling, so this could be him. I would be very grateful if you could give me any more info you might have on this family.By the way Jessie was married at Hillend Kirkconnel i dont know where that is, but my dad said as far as he knows the Lammies came from Dumfriesher or Dundee, hes not sure, please get in touch. I think we may be related. My great grandfather was John Lambie. He died at Blackside, Sorn in 1941 at the age of 89 and is buried in Douglas new cemetery. According to the register of his death his father was Robert Lambie and his mother was Janet Anderson. Robert Lambies father was Thomas Lambie (taken from the same register of deaths) and his mother was Margaret Mair (Moir?). I wasn't aware of the change of spelling. It could open up new avenues. Do you have anything further on these people? This is as far as I've been able to get.

Hi Bob,

Great to speak to you and you could very possibly be right although I wasn't aware of a John. One positive aspect is that Robert and Janet's 2nd and 3rd child were Thomas and Margaret. Another is that although I have a list of 6 children - Agnes, Thomas, Margaret, William, Martha and Robert there is a gap of 7 years between the 4th and 5th. According to my family info William was born in 1850 and Martha in 1857 leaving a long gap where there had only been a couple of years between the others. The last thing is that that would have been the first generation where there wasn't a John which was unusual. The last two children - Martha and Robert were born in Douglas as Robert ran a farm there at Kinnoxhead so it is highly likely you are one of my huge Anderson/Lambie clan.

I have a full family history going back to Robert Lambie/Lammie and also for Janet Anderson going back to her grandparents. I will happily pass on the info and discuss anything you want to know.

That was quick! As you say, John could fill in a small gap in the Lambie/Anderson family. He died in 1941 at the age of 89 which would have him born 1853 give or take a year. I'd be most grateful for anything you could send me, particularly on the Andersons. If a few photos of Lambies circa 1900 would interest you I could e-mail them to you. Apart from John and one of his sons I have one with John, a brother and four of his sisters.

I have traced back to a marriage of John Imrie and Martha Lambie, who had three children, Jean, Helen (Nov 16, 1794), and Henry ( Arpil 16, 1797). I have found Martha to be an uncommon name, and the combination Martha Lambie suggests a link to yours several decades later. I haven't gotten farther, although I've gone through the OPR films. Any connection?
