Thiis afernoon In an antique shoop in Halifax I bought a round box similar to the one you describe with a picture of the Brooks Sewing Cottons Factory inside the lid.On the outside of the lid is a print of a place in Marseilles. The box is Mauchlineware made in the village of Mauchline Ayrshire Scotland some time in the 100 years before 1933 when the box-making factory was burnt down.
I would be most interested to hear from you anything you have discovered about the Brooks Cotton business which was researching when I came on your query.

Read your message about Brooks Sewing Cotton Works. I did an inquery quite a while ago about the above subject. Good to know that I'm not the only person inquiring or mentioning of it.

My Brooks Sewing Cotton box is a round small one with Mucross Abbey on the cover. Underneath the cover is the picture of the sewing factory. On the bottom of the sewing box is a picture of a rather happy goat. My mother gave it to me just before she had passed away.

I'm trying to find more information about it as my mother's mom's sister Mabel married a Thomas Brooks and always had wondered if there's a connection. I understand that these boxes were given out as preimiums in the older days. And, yes the box is over 100 years old. There were a number of varities made and given out in Scotland, Ireland, and perhaps England. I had received various e-mails back quite a while ago.
