Since my last post, found that this does not come from Ayrshire at all. What threw me off was the death cert of my 2x G Grandmother.

It was a red herring, to cut a long story short I assumed the woman named on her death cert was her natural mother. Her natural mother was called Catherine and not Margaret. So her cert shows both women her stepmother (Margaret McLean nee Blyth) and her natural mother's surname (m.s Sutherland).

I do have distant relatives living in Ayrshire though, maybe have to dig out info on them at a later date.
