thanks for the real quick reply....my John Campbell m. Helen C. Carnduff about 1760-1786 in Galston, Ayr they did not emigrate but their daughter, Johann (Ann) Campbell did in the 1800's and died in Eversley, Ontario, 24 April 1857. she married a Thomas G. Gilles, 1 June 1806 in Galston, Ayr and had a daughter Grizel (Gracie) on 13 April 1814. i believe i have the whole family listing in my files if need be.
doesn't sound like much of a match but on the off-chance that some of this connects somewhere else i include it for your files and use.

thanx again

cheers Graeme,

doesn't sound as if there's a connection between your Gillies and mine. my Grizel (Gracie), daughter of Thomas G. Gilles and Johann (Ann) Campbell was born in Galston as were her parents. on the other hand Thomas' parents, Daniel Gillies and Grace Crawford were married in Leshmahagow, Lanark and from there i lose touch with the family. none of this seems to fit but if you wish i could supply more detail. let me know lari

Gillies; Lanark

Hi Lari

Just found this site and reading old messages.

I have William GILLIES, b 15 Oct 1826, Douglas, Lanark; m 7 Jun 1853, Cumbrae, Bute to Agnes FINNIE; d 29 Nov 1872, Rothesay, Bute.

We think his parents were Thomas GILLIES and Crary SPENCE but, so far, we have no other info.

Does this tie in with you at all ?

Graeme

Don,

i guess i can assume you have visited the Carnduff page? just in case i've pasted in the URL below.

doesn't sound like our Carnduffs are connected, what with being separated by a hundred years or more and a continent to boot....if you do happen upon any Carnduffs from the late 1700's/early 1800's around the Galston area i'd be pleased to hear from you. i'll certainly reciprocate.

Genealogy is such an intriguing subject. I have been trying to determine the pedigree of Helen H Carnduff for some time. There was an Helen Carnduff in the Census of New York I think it was 1871 - I can't put my finger on the reference just now but will continue to look if you wish.

Then there was Andrew Carnduff Ritchie - Art writer - Maclean's Magazine 1993. Was a Trustee of the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Both of these remain an enigma to me. If you have anything on them I would be so pleased.

I too have Campbell's in my past. Dating from the ealy 1800 - they were from Glenelg and settled in Argenteuil QC

In regards to the ancestors of the carnduff's, I have been searching for relatives of my Mother who was born to John Campbell and Mary Riddell Campbell in Saltcoats, Mom's name was Janet Davidson Campbell DOB September 18, 1930 it is beleived her mother died at birth and her father shortly after. The family moved Mom as an infant to Inverness area although this info is not confirmed. I have a picture of Valarie from a photo lab from Stirling. If you have any of these names in your family tree I would be grateful to hear from you.
Thanks
Heather
